The Catholic Church is a worldwide family of faith, united by a shared belief in Jesus Christ and a rich tradition that stretches back more than 2,000 years. In the United States, millions of Catholics gather each week to worship, receive the Sacraments, serve their communities, and grow in their relationship with God. The Church is more than a place we attend on Sunday—it is a community in which we encounter Christ, find belonging, and are strengthened to live out our faith in everyday life.
For many people, however, participation in the Church has not always been consistent. Life can become busy and complicated. Work, family responsibilities, difficult experiences, questions about faith, disagreements with Church teachings, or simply falling out of the habit of attending Mass can cause someone to gradually become disconnected from the Church. For others, a painful experience may have led them to intentionally step away.
Whatever the reason, the door is always open.
Many people eventually find themselves searching for something deeper—a greater sense of purpose, a closer relationship with God, a community in which they belong, or answers to questions that the world cannot fully satisfy. If you have been away from the Catholic Church, whether for a few months or many years, know that you are welcome to return. You do not need to have everything figured out before walking through the doors of a Catholic church again.
The Church is a family, and families notice when someone is missing. We sincerely miss those who are no longer participating in the sacramental and community life of the Church. If you or someone you love has been away, we invite you to consider coming home. Begin simply: attend Mass, spend some quiet time in prayer, speak with a priest, or contact the parish office. There is no need to be embarrassed or afraid to ask questions. We are here to help you take the next step.
Coming Home to the Catholic Faith
Returning to the Church may look different for each person. Some may simply need to begin attending Mass again. Others may wish to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation after many years away. Some may have questions about marriage, the Sacraments, Church teachings, or circumstances in their lives that they are unsure how to address.
Whatever your situation, please reach out. A priest or parish staff member can listen to your questions, help you understand what steps—if any—are needed, and accompany you as you reconnect with your Catholic faith.

Catholics Come Home is a nonprofit Catholic apostolate dedicated to inviting inactive Catholics and others searching for a spiritual home to discover or rediscover the beauty of the Catholic faith. Through educational resources, personal stories, answers to common questions, and explanations of Catholic beliefs and practices, Catholics Come Home provides a welcoming place for those who may be considering a return to the Church.
Many of those involved with Catholics Come Home have experienced their own journeys of rediscovering the Catholic faith. Some returned after spending years away from the Church, while others remained Catholic but came to understand and appreciate their faith in a deeper way. Their experiences reflect a simple message of hope: it is never too late to come home.
Whether you have been away for a short time, have not practiced the faith for many years, or are simply beginning to explore Catholicism, you are invited to take another look. Ask questions. Come to Mass. Talk with a priest. Explore the Sacraments. Most importantly, allow yourself the opportunity to encounter Jesus Christ again.
