CALENDAR 2023-2024

What is the curriculum

  • All grade levels (K-7) use the Loyola Press Curriculum, Finding God: Our Response to God’s Gifts.

This comprehensive religion program is based on a spiral curriculum that integrates the fundamental themes of the Catechism of the Catholic Church with Scripture and Catholic Social Teaching. As children are introduced to and revisit concepts and vocabulary from one year to the next, their knowledge and experience both broadens and deepens. This program provides lessons in faith and delivers those lessons through experiential activities that encourage lifelong practice.

Sacramental Preparation: begins with the parents

  • Baptism - Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RICA) is the process through which interested adults and older children (7+) are gradually introduced to the Roman Catholic faith and way of life. Children who are not baptized as infants are also initiated through an adapted process of this rite.
  • First Reconciliation (also known as confession) seek absolution, which is an act of penance that involves a person receiving forgiveness for their sins.
  • First Eucharist (also known as First Communion) Jesus is present in the consecrated Communion. We invite families with children entering the second grade and older to prepare for the Sacrament of Eucharist. Traditionally celebrated in the second grade, it is a two-year preparation to receive this sacrament.
  • Confirmation is the sacrament by which we receive a special outpouring of the Holy Spirit. Through Confirmation, the Holy Spirit gives them the increased ability to practice their Catholic faith in every aspect of their lives and to witness Christ in every situation. Traditionally celebrated in the eighth grade, it is a two-year preparation to receive this sacrament.

Uninterrupted ongoing faith formation provides the seamless faith development that is essential for the reception of any Sacrament. Attendance at Mass and the regular reception of the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist are crucial to the forming of one’s faith. We recognize that some students may have had an interrupted formation process. These students will be required to take a year of Faith Formation prior to registration for sacramental preparation.

Participants "undergo…conversion as they study the Gospel, profess faith in Jesus and the Catholic Church, and receive the sacraments…The RCIA process follows the ancient practice of the Church and was restored by the Second Vatican Council as the normal way adults prepare for baptism."
