Speaking for the US Bishops, Bishop William Skylstad issued a statement calling for a serious and civil dialogue on a morally responsible transition in Iraq. The central message of his statement is that the search for genuine justice and peace in Iraq requires moral urgency, substantive dialogue and new directions.
The statement declares: “Our nation’s forces should remain in Iraq only as long as their presence contributes to a responsible transition. Our nation should look for effective ways to end their deployment at the earliest opportunity consistent with this goal.”
Copies of the bishop’s full statement are in the vestibule of the church. Please read the document and use the information to write your representatives in Congress about the urgent matter of ending the war and bringing the troops home.
